My Keylogger lovestory

I got an email notification about my recent Facebook activity. “Password change, you may log in to your account now” then another email notification came and said “twitter password change.” It seems to be a normal email notice, but the problem is I never made those changes on my social-networking  accounts. It was alarming but not to the extent of pushing the panic button.  Social media sites are the number one target of hackers around the net. They would do anything to get hold as many accounts for spamming and gathering personal information.

Even if you have a good antivirus it is not enough to detect with newer and even drastic worms and viruses popping out each day. That is why it is highly recommended that you update your antivirus software every other day to protect you from harm. However, no one is exempted and no one is left off when computer viruses strikes.

I went to a good Chicago Computer repair service and analyzed the whole situation. They run two different anti-viruses and found nothing. Until I heard the final verdict, “Sir, we found a key logger program in your computer”…

What goes to my mind is the kernel type key logger. Because this type of program is hard to write and detect, they normally reside on the kernel level which is difficult to detect on user-mode applications.

They are implemented as rootkits in the operating system kernel and gain unauthorized access. This might not be that damaging. However, the people installing this can gain significant information to anything you type in the keyboard.

And true that, I got a kernel key logger program on my personal laptop.

I carefully uninstalled the program with a question that keeps bugging on my mind.  Who could have installed a keylogger program on my own personal computer?

It couldn’t be my wife…. Not in my wildest dream…

Then I received a text message with the words… Hi dear… if you are looking for your passwords on your Face book and twitter here it is… Facebook’s password: happy_anniversary Twitter password: i_love_you

Then I turned around and smiled.
